29March 2010 - Zimbabwe has lauched a national Human Capital Website with a database of its skilled workers and professionals across the world as part of a wider effort to freeze brain drain locally and start luring back workers from the diaspora.

In remarks made at the launch of the website in Harare, Deputy Higher Education Minister Addington Tapela said the website is also meant to be a source of information on investment opportunities in the country.

"The website seeks to provide information on investment opportunities in the country that professionals in the diaspora may take advantage of. Further, the database, which is integrated to the website, is designed to capture the profiles of Zimbabweans in the diaspora who
are interested in participating in various initiatives where their skills will be required," Tapela said.

The minister was one of the guests invited to launch the website at the premises of the Institute of People Management of Zimbabwe, which included heads of private and public sector corporates.

Zimbabwe is struggling to fill a skills gap which is the result of a massive exodus of professionals from the country over the past ten years as the economy slid into standstill.

The ushering in a of unity government in February last year has seen a struggle towards economic resurgence which is being throttled by many factors, among them lack of capital and a huge human skills gap of which 130 000 are key civil servants.
